“Society of Military Widows”

On Jan 17th, I spoke to the “Society of Military Widows.” At the conclusion of my talk, the President, Ms. Janet Snyder, embraced the Prideinpurity ministry, but to my surprise, she presented me with a gift (a print of the Western Wall in Jerusalem) and then proclaimed me as an “Honorary Member” of the Society of Military Widows, Chapter #34; I was amazed, humbled, and honored.

Ms. Snyder and SMW women around the nation, work unceasingly with the legislative branches of our government, ensuring retired military members and military widows are not forgotten, and that promised benefits remain secure.

On behalf of their brave husbands who served our country honorably, and the current retired service men and women, I am truly honored to lock-arms with these “modern-day heroines.” They deserve our attention, prayers, and support when needed.

Thank you local SMW Chapter#34, I salute you!

The Lord will answer prayer as we come together on this state-wide initiative to combat trafficking, by locking arms in solidarity, and battle against those who seek to abuse our women and children. It doesn’t matter if you were at Calvary Chapel Boulder City, or one the thousands who viewed the “trafficking no more” documentary at home, we have collectively began war in the spiritual realm, i.e. on our knees through prayer… The battle has begun, I implore you, to please remain watchful in your homes, work, or schools, for anyone that may be stalking around to “turn-out” our communities. The perpetrators are banking on us to collectively go back to our homes and grow weary of the fight and eventually, settle back into our every day lives; like so many times before. So keep on praying, and keep the conversation alive in your hearts and minds; on behalf of a safe environment to live and play in. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER: stock up on pamphlets and literature from organizations that are on the front-lines, like the State Attorney General’s office, local Law Enforcement Agencies or click on the links below. Lastly,

BE PROACTIVE: ready to help a victim, if or when the time comes, by attending local meetings, and staying informed. Thank you again, for participating last night! Let’s keep it going for as long as it takes to get the message across–“Not happening on our watch!”

Today we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and for me, it brings to mind the word “Freedom.” Freedom means: Independence, liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another. Yet, despite the adoption of treaties and laws prohibiting slavery, evidence shows that many men, women, and children continue to live in modern-day slavery through the scourge of trafficking in persons.

On Wednesday, January 22, at 7:30 p.m.every major local TV network will switch from their regular programming to air a locally produced documentary on sex trafficking. The 30-minute movie opens with a viewer discretion advisory and follows it up with victim accounts and eye-opening details about sex trafficking in Nevada. It’s not meant to be easy viewing but to instead, raise awareness about a serious issue in Nevada and the nation. The age of viewers should be 12 years of age an older.

*Calvary Chapel Boulder City will interrupt their mid-week service to show the “Trafficking no more” documentary, on Wednesday the 22nd of January. Please make it a priority to come out as a community, to show your solidarity, on behalf of those who are deprived of their basic freedoms. Calvary Chapel Boulder City is located at 1000 Nevada Way, Suite 207, Boulder City NV 89005. You are encouraged to invite neighbors, friends, and especially the Youth, here in Boulder City.

Finally, please be in place at 7:00pm, as the showing time will be the same time as the TV networks, 7:30pm.

Thank you!

“Wreaths Across America Day”

Today,December 14, 2014, was “Wreaths Across America Day”. I was honored to spend the day with the Society of Military Widows of Southern Nevada Chapter #34 at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. The service started at 9:00 a.m. this morning, there was standing room only. There were two outstanding speakers, and presentation of the wreaths for each military service. After the service, we picked up wreaths and went to the grave sites with the cadets from the Air Force, Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron.
From the grave sites we went to the Nevada State Veterans Home. Members had brought large-print puzzle books, picture frames, artificial flower arrangements, socks (their favorite gift), and I brought copies of my latest book, “You’re in the Army Now” which I signed and personalized for each veteran. We talked to a lot of the veterans and military widows, while they were eating lunch.
There were 15 of us who went to Wreaths Across America Day at the Boulder City Cemetery: Jeanne Lewis, Alberta Elliott, Janet Snyder, Midge Sparlin, Marilyn Fernandez and daughter Michelle, Kay Milzer, Bea McKelvy, Bev Wyas, Sam Colarusso, Angela Colarusso, Jeri Flynn, Pearl Chesnaky, Anita Domingues, and Denise Ashurst.
Hope that more of you will join us next year!

Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 21, 2013 Boulder City, NV

“You’re In the army now!” reflects on how a life serving our nation looks like a life serving God.

Denise Ashurst, author of “PrideinPurity” and “Ribblets” has written an inspirational book that reflects on her twenty years in the military, and how becoming a Christian gave her a new perspective on the values she learned when she served in the Air Force. “You’re in the Army Now!” is a collection of short stories and fond memories from basic training to active duty. And alongside the way, Denise gives her readers a chance to see how discipline, loyalty, respect and obedience can bring you honor not only in the military, but also in God’s kingdom.  She has provided space for you to write your own thoughts, and “Brownie Points” in case you want to “go the extra mile.” Denise also provides biblical accounts that round out her comparison of how her faith gave her a new understanding of her time spent serving her country.

Denise Elizabeth Ashurst served twenty years in the United States Air Force where she retired as a Technical Sergeant.  She went on to serve at the United States Department of Energy (DoE) at the National Nuclear Security Administration, Nevada Site Facility (NNSA/NSF) as the Operations Coordinator at the Nevada Test Site.  She retired from the DoE and now resides in Boulder City Nevada, and is the founder and president of PrideinPurity International Ministries, mentoring women of all ages.  Her third book, “You’re in the Army Now!” is scheduled for release December 2013.  Her work and blog can be found at www.prideinpurity.com.  Denise has a 32-year-old son and a 30-year-old daughter who both live and work in Las Vegas.
